List of products by brand SunPower

SunPower is a worldwide leading solar company. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, its presence is split between the U.S. and Europe. The company was founded in 1985 by a professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, although its beginnings date back to the 1970s with the aim of discovering a solution to the oil crisis.

Since then, the brand has experienced a very rapid and continuous growth, reaching today to produce high-end solar panels with very high efficiencies compared to other global manufacturers.

Today, SunPower is involved in the marine, aerospace and terrestrial sectors, with a focus on residential, commercial and energy storage installations. Thanks to their ambitions, they are able to offer cutting-edge technology also in the self-consumption market, as the technology used in missions outside of space is also applied in this type of modules.

The company has more than 30 years of experience in the manufacture of solar panels, more than 1,000 innovation patents and a record of 24.1% efficiency in a silicon solar panel. In addition, the total absence of metal contacts on the cells makes the solar panels practically failure-free. They are also pioneers in the field of solar sustainability and social responsibility, always looking towards a green and lasting future for our planet.

Within the technology offered by SunPower modules, two series can be highlighted; the Performance range (P series) and the Maxeon range.

On the one hand, the Performance range offers panels with improved performance compared to conventional ones. First, each cell of the panel is laser-cut into six strips and overlapped to create a "hypercell". This hypercell allows a more active cell area to be fitted into each panel, increasing power and efficiency.

Second, the cells are connected with a conductive adhesive borrowed from the aerospace industry to provide multiple, redundant paths for the flow of electricity. This eliminates the front contact strips and solder bonds found in conventional cells that can block the active cell area and deteriorate over time, leading to cell failures and power deficits.

Finally, P-Series panels feature a unique parallel circuit architecture that significantly limits energy loss in shade and dirt. The result is a superior tile panel built with commodity cells, outperforming conventional panels in efficiency, performance and reliability.

The P series offers a 25-year energy, product and service warranty.

On the other hand, the Maxeon range also offers an improved solution over conventional panels. For starters, this series offers higher efficiency and has the lowest degradation rate in the solar industry, around 0.2%/year, less than a third of conventional rates of 0.75%/year.

In addition, the cells in this series use back-contact conductivity, eliminating unsightly metallic grid lines and allowing them to absorb more sunlight. The metal adds massive strength to each cell, helping it resist corrosion from the elements while making the entire panel more durable.

To top it off, the back-contact cell design of Maxeon panels also offers a neat and sleek design aesthetic, with panels available in black and white back sheets.

This latest series offers a 40-year warranty, the longest warranty in the solar industry.

Finally, the difference between the Performance series and the Maxeon series lies in the type of cell used in the panels. The Performance panels use high-efficiency mono PERC cells for greater reliability and efficiency, while the cells in the Maxeon panels have no grid lines, solid metal backing and thick strain relief connectors.
