Can I combine low voltage batteries (24V/48V) with High Voltage (HV) inverters?

No. There is a voltage hierarchy that must be strictly respected:

  • Low voltage batteries (24V or 48V) only work with low voltage hybrid inverters.

  • High voltage (HV) batteries, which exceed 48V depending on the manufacturer, are exclusive to HV inverters.

  • Before purchase, always verify that the inverter's working voltage matches that of the battery.

Do I need to install solar panels to use batteries?

Not explicitly. Batteries are storage devices that can be charged from any energy source. If your solar inverter can manage charging from the grid, you can charge your batteries during off-peak hours (when electricity is cheaper) and use that energy during peak hours, even without photovoltaic panels.

What type of fire extinguisher is suitable for lithium batteries?

Due to the chemical nature of lithium, conventional water extinguishers must not be used. You must use extinguishers specifically designed for lithium fires (Class D or specific agents such as AVD), which are prepared to extinguish fires in high-energy-density cells.

How do extreme temperatures affect my batteries (Lithium vs AGM/Gel)?

This is a key factor for photovoltaic efficiency:

  • Lithium batteries: Very sensitive to extreme cold. Most BMS systems block charging below 0°C to protect the cells.

How do I verify the technical certifications for my country?

Can I expand my lithium battery bank in the future?

Yes, lithium batteries (such as Pylontech or Dyness) allow parallel expansion. Ideally, add new modules within the first 2 to 3 years of the originals' lifespan. If the old bank is heavily degraded, the new battery will be limited by the old ones' performance.

What is SoC and why should I not discharge my battery to 0%?

The State of Charge (SoC) indicates how much energy remains. Although lithium allows deep discharges, it is recommended to configure the inverter to leave a margin of 10-20% (DoD). This acts as a safety buffer for the cells, preventing the battery from entering a state of deep discharge from which it cannot recover.

Why is my lithium battery beeping or showing a red light (Alarm)?

Not always a fault. Usually a BMS alert due to:

  1. High/low voltage: The inverter is not configured with the correct voltages.

  2. Communication failure: The data cable between inverter and battery is not properly connected or is incorrect.

  3. Temperature: The battery is in a location that is too cold (below 5°C) or too hot.

1.2 Battery Brands

Pylontech (Lithium)

2. Inverters

2.1 General Questions about Inverters

What is the difference between off-grid, grid-tied, and hybrid inverters?
  1. Off-Grid Inverters: Used in systems without grid access. They generate their own 50 Hz network and are usually hybrid, allowing batteries for night supply.
  2. Grid-Tied Inverters: Synchronized with the public grid. Without grid presence they don't operate. Main goal is savings through immediate self-consumption or surplus injection.
  3. Hybrid Inverters: The most versatile. They allow battery connection in both off-grid and grid-connected systems. Grid-connected hybrid models can manage battery charge/discharge and, in many cases, provide emergency backup if the main supply fails.
What advantages does a microinverter installation offer over a conventional one?

Microinverters eliminate the 'single point of failure'; if one unit fails, the rest of the installation continues producing. They also optimise the individual output of each panel, making them the ideal solution for rooftops with partial shade or multiple orientations.

What does it mean that my inverter has 2 MPPT inputs?

It means the unit has two independent maximum power point trackers. This allows connecting up to two strings (rows of panels) with different conditions (orientation or tilt) without the performance of one affecting the other.

What happens if my panel current (Impp) exceeds the inverter's limit?

Can I connect inverters of different brands in the same installation?

What inverter do I need for a wind turbine or water pump?

The difference lies in communication. A Full model includes an integrated Datamanager card (for monitoring and management), while the Light model does not.

  • New installation: At least one Full inverter is required.

  • Expansions: The Full inverter acts as the “Master” and additional units can be Light (“Slaves”), communicating through the master.

What Smart Meter (energy meter) do I need for my Fronius inverter?

Can I use 48V batteries from any brand with Deye?

Yes, Deye is one of the most versatile inverters. Compatible with most lithium batteries via CAN/RS485 communication (such as Pylontech, Dyness, or DEYE), and also allows manual configuration in “V” (voltage) mode for Lead-Acid or Lithium batteries without communication.

What is the "Zero Export" function and how is it configured?

Can I put several Deye inverters in parallel?

Victron Energy

What is the difference between the MultiPlus and Quattro range?

How do I know how many panels fit on my roof and what spacing to leave?
