Kostal or also called Kostal Electric is a German manufacturer of electrical components mainly for the automotive industry that entered the manufacture of solar inverters in 2006. The Kostal Group is more than 100 years old (founded in 1912) and has a successful track record that also serves as a reference for its solar inverters.
Kostal in Hagen, Freiburg (Germany) is the German headquarters of the parent company (Kostal Industrie Elektrik) which owns Kostal Solar Inverters (Kostal Solar Electric).
The German solar inverter brand Kostal is a benchmark for quality. With many years of experience in the sector, Kostal not only manufactures the products but also provides comprehensive solutions for the design and monitoring of photovoltaic plants in both the residential and commercial sectors.
Kostal Solar focuses on manufacturing inverters for residential and commercial applications with inverters ranging from low 2kW to medium 60kW. Kostal is an expert in the development of what are called string inverters (as opposed to central inverters). Within its line of inverters we find, depending on the nominal power, single-phase or three-phase inverters.
Kostal's main products are distributed in several families which are hybrid inverters, grid-tie inverters, inverter-chargers and monitoring software for small and medium-sized solar plants.
In the grid-tie solar inverter segment, Kostal has two families, Plenticore Plus and PIKO. These two product lines offer many variants and possibilities as explained below.
Piko MP plus is a 2 MPPT single-phase solar inverter up to 5KW rated power. The Piko MP plus is the simplest family but still has a wide operating voltage range as well as a shadow management system. Additionally, the Piko MP plus series can use an MPPT for the use and connection of batteries.
The PIko IQ family is a series of three-phase inverters with nominal power ranging from 3 to 10 kW. This family is suitable for the use of the "Smart Home" monitoring system with open interfaces, has a display for configuration and commissioning as well as the possibility to monitor the inverter 24 hours a day.
The Penticore Plus family is a series of three-phase solar inverters with 3 MPPT's from 3 to 10kW nominal power. Like the PIKO IQ it is a family suitable for Smart Home use and also allows 24-hour monitoring of the electrical installation.
Additionally we find the Plenticore Plus Bi series which allows three-phase inverters to charge and discharge batteries also up to 10kW nominal power and in three-phase networks.
For larger solar installations, especially for the commercial and industrial segment, Kostal offers the Piko 12-20 three-phase lines up to 20kW nominal power with 2 or up to 3 MPPT's.
The higher power inverters offered by Kostal are part of the PIKO CI line, comprising three-phase power ratings from 30 to 60 kW nominal power. These solar inverters can work at a voltage of 1100V string voltage.

KOSTAL PICO inverters include an integrated communications kit, which enables monitoring via the Kostal Solar Portal platform. It also works with different monitoring systems. Thanks to the kit, external coupling switches are no longer necessary, thus saving additional costs.
